What Changes the Price of a Website in Mumbai

Comparing website development quotes in Mumbai

Two quotes for the same website in Mumbai can differ by a factor of ten, and both can be honest. The gap is almost never about the developer being greedy or cheap. It is about what each quote assumed you meant.

This explains what moves the number, so you can read a quote properly and compare two of them fairly.

What you are actually buying

A website quote covers some combination of design, build, content, and the setup that makes the site findable and maintainable. Cheap quotes usually include the second one only.

That is not dishonest. It becomes a problem when you assumed copy, photography and search setup were included, and the quote assumed you would supply them.

The five things that move the price most

Page count, but not the way you think. Ten pages using one template cost far less than four pages each designed differently. Ask how many distinct layouts are involved, not how many URLs.

Who writes the copy. This is the single most common hidden cost and the most common cause of delay. If the quote does not say, assume it is yours to write.

Photography. Stock images are free or near enough. A shoot of your premises, your team and your work is not, and for a salon, restaurant or manufacturer it is usually the difference between a site that converts and one that does not.

Custom functionality. A contact form is standard. Bookings, payments, a customer login, inventory that syncs with something else — each of these is a project of its own.

Revisions. Most quotes include two or three rounds. Unlimited revisions sound generous and usually mean the price already assumes you will use them.

What a low quote has usually left out

  • Copywriting, assumed to be supplied by you.
  • A premium theme or plugin licence, sometimes replaced with a pirated copy.
  • Hosting, or hosting registered in the agency’s name rather than yours.
  • Search setup — titles, descriptions, sitemap, Search Console verification.
  • Any support after launch.
  • Training so you can edit the site yourself.

None of these are unreasonable to exclude. They are unreasonable to exclude silently.

The ongoing costs nobody quotes

A website is not a one-time purchase. Budget annually for the domain, hosting, theme and plugin licence renewals, and someone to run updates. Skipping the last one is how sites get hacked.

If you were not told about renewals during the sale, ask before you pay the deposit. It is a fair question and the answer tells you something about the agency.

How to compare two quotes properly

  • Ask both to price the same written scope, not their own interpretation of your brief.
  • Ask what happens after launch, and what it costs.
  • Ask who owns the domain, hosting and files when the engagement ends.
  • Ask how many distinct designs are included and what an extra one costs.
  • Ask what is explicitly not included. The honest answer to this question is the most informative thing you will hear.

Cheap is sometimes the right answer

If you need a credible three-page presence so that people who already know your name can find your number, a modest build is the correct decision and spending more would be waste.

The expensive option earns its cost when the site has to generate enquiries rather than merely exist — when it competes in search, handles bookings, or is the first thing a buyer sees before deciding whether you are real.

What this looks like in Mumbai

Local retail and service businesses usually need a small, fast site plus a properly optimised Google Business Profile, because most of their customers arrive through Maps rather than through the site.

Professional services in South Mumbai are buying credibility, so design and copy carry more weight than page count. Trading and export firms need a site that survives a buyer checking whether the company is real before replying to an email.
